The meaning of love in our twenties is complex and ever-evolving. It’s a time of transition, as we navigate the shift from adolescence to adulthood. Love in this stage of life takes on a broader, more multifaceted meaning. These are the years of profound change and self-discovery, where we experience personal growth, learn to set boundaries, and experiment with new ideas and identities. We face crises that challenge our understanding of ourselves and our relationships, and we begin to let go of what no longer aligns with who we are or who we aspire to be.
In our twenties, we learn the importance of nurturing relationships that bring us joy, support, and growth, while also recognizing the value of releasing those that no longer serve us. It’s a time of exploring the balance between freedom and connection, between solitude and companionship. We start to untangle the complex web of who we are now, who we want to become, and how we fit into the broader world around us.
Love in our twenties isn’t confined to romantic relationships; it extends to friendships, sexual relationships, and family ties. Each of these connections plays a crucial role in shaping our understanding of love and intimacy. Friendships may deepen as we find those who truly understand and accept us, while romantic relationships can range from passionate and fleeting to deeply committed. We also begin to redefine our relationships with family, negotiating our independence while still seeking connection and support.
After spending a long period photographing the people who filled my twenties, I now find myself on the threshold of 30, reflecting on what has changed and how I’ve grown. This project has been therapeutic for my sensitive and emotional side, which struggles with letting go. Most importantly, it has given me the opportunity to look back and realize how much progress I’ve made, allowing me to smile at what no longer exists and hold on tightly to what has matured.
Amori Giovani was initially conceived as a multidisciplinary project, spacing from photography to video, sound, and installation. So far, the only part developed has been the photography, but the intention to further elaborate the project’s message—drawing inspiration from the photographs to create interactive sound installations—is currently in the early stages of developing.
