Dimensione opera: variabile
Dimensione lastre: 46x70 - 44x101 - 53x74cm
The installation features a dynamic sculpture composed of three suspended wax rectangles, each with multiple wicks to be lit on the opening day of the exhibition. The heat from the flames melts the wax, which drips onto a plate below, forming new configurations in a continuous process of transformation visible in real-time.
Wax, a material with countless possibilities for metamorphosis, explores the mutability of form. Shifting from solid to liquid and back again, it can be continuously reused and reshaped, symbolizing the eternal cycle of transformation, encapsulated in the saying, "nothing is created, nothing is destroyed, everything is transformed."
This metamorphosis invites to a reflection on the limits/boundaries of the material and immaterial in relation to time, demonstrating how physical and conceptual barriers, which seem stable and defined, are in fact subject to constant change, flexible and transitory.
Though without explicit references, the work carries a political subtext that echoes struggles for liberation and decolonization, both in the recent historical context and on a broader scale.
The artist also explores the concept of limits and metamorphosis in relation to the body. The red color of the wax, evocative of flesh, suggests a body confronting its physical and temporal limits. Not represented in its traditional form, it becomes a symbol of all bodies that live and transform, alluding to the fine line between life and death and reflecting on the cycle of birth, decay, and rebirth.
The photos and videos presented here are test runs of the work, with smaller dimensions and slightly different colors.
